Gourmet Safari in South Africa
At umSisi House, we have taken influences from around the world to create our unique interpretation of Afro-fusion food and to prepare our food journeys through different cuisines. You may enjoy an Afro-Italian meal one night and a Moroccan food journey the next. Each day serves up a different culinary experience. We plan all meals in advance and serve a set menu (or Table d’hôte as the French say).
We guarantee that your dining experience will be one of the highlights of your stay at umSisi House!
Our Food
Guests staying on a dinner, bed and breakfast or fully inclusive basis either select meals from our bespoke menu list or send through any dietary requirements and let us surprise you! And if your children aren’t ready for the culinary journey, we can prepare early children’s dinners so that you don’t have to compromise on what you want to eat. You just need to let us know in advance.
Our delicious home cooked meals are prepared with care and dedication to the availability of seasonal produce, much of which is grown in our organic kitchen garden. We pride ourselves on our access to the best local ingredients so that you can enjoy South African produce at its best. At umSisi House, we spend considerable time pairing our house wines for each meal to ensure the ultimate dining experience. We also boast a large cellar of South African red wines if you would like to be more adventurous! Meals are served at the chef's table in the open-plan kitchen or outside on the veranda weather permitting.
Breakfast and Lunch Options
Depending on whether you are 'at home' for the day or off to a private Kruger day safari with umSisi House will determine your breakfast. If you're leaving for an early morning game-drive we will serve coffee, tea and rusks at the kitchen bar before sending you off with a Bush Breakfast to see you through to lunchtime.
If you are 'at home' at umSisi House, you will be offered a selection of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and bread as well as one of our tried and tested, sweet or savoury, hot breakfast specials.
If you’re with us on a fully inclusive basis then lunches are a masterful affair that we design to your taste or one of our sumptuous picnic hampers loaded with delicious goodies if you’re off exploring the Kruger National Park or the Panorama Route. We also offer our guests access to tea and coffee, fruit cordials and a fresh supply of fruit on a ‘help yourself’ basis.
Dinner Under the Stars
There is also the wonderful option of having ‘dinner under the stars’ where we bring our experience of running safaris to prepare dinner in your own private, open-air dining room. Lanterns will be twinkling around you and the fire will be roaring as you enjoy a dinner cooked in traditional African cast iron pots on the open fire.
These pots are known locally as potjie pots (pronounced poy-key). The meal will feature freshly-baked pot bread, a hearty stew, fresh salads and something sticky and sweet, with freshly ground African coffee to finish. The menu can be tailored to your requirements and vegetarians are easily catered for.
Operates June to September. Set-up costs are payable.
Mountain View Sundowners
We can also arrange ‘mountain view sundowners’ at a private spot looking across the valley towards the Kruger National Park if you feel up to a bit of a hike and the reward of perching on top of a mountain with gin and tonic in hand and something delicious to nibble on. You will be returned to the farmhouse in one of the umSisi House Land Rovers in time for dinner.
